A Culture of Generosity
God calls us to steward the resources we’ve been given and generously live our lives for others. Much of the joy of Christian life comes from discovering that through our generosity we can connect with God, creation and the broader world.
Knowing that it is more pleasing to give than receive, each of us has been given gifts from God to share with others: time, talent and/or treasure. Helping congregations try new approaches to stewardship and planned giving is a shared journey—and the Stewardship staff are happy to act as guides.
“…as we give
ourselves to
Christ we discover
that his service
alone brings true
freedom.”
Living Faith 8.1.1
The Stewardship & Planned Giving department continues to guide congregations on their giving journey using a variety of tools and resources. Strategies we encourage include:
- Helping congregational leaders talk about money and teach the biblical principles of ways to manage and share resources giving gratefully, cheerfully, intentionally, proportionally, regularly, according to what one has
- Focusing on sharing goals, dreams and a vision for what can be accomplished through a congregation’s gifts (not just money)
- Helping people invest in the mission of the church through planned gifts, such as gifts in their will, annuities, life insurance and gifts of securities.
- Helping congregations grow in their stewardship of God’s creation
- Providing resources to help congregations grow stewardship leaders to shepherd responsible stewardship programs
Inspiring others to give by sharing stories of generosity.
