The Presbyterian Church in Canada offers various funding to help congregations in a variety of areas including children and youth ministry, worship, lay training, conferences, building projects, mission work, specialized ministries and ministerial assistance.

In order for applications to be considered for the majority of these funds, they must be received by April 15. If there are funds remaining after the first review, additional applications will be considered if received by October 1. Deadlines for specific funds that differ from these dates are noted in their descriptions.

Funds

Program Funds

  • Avondbloem Experimental Fund – This fund provides grants to individuals or groups within The Presbyterian Church in Canada, or to projects recommended by them, to support experimental projects which will help to spread the message of Jesus Christ and further the Kingdom of God.
  • Bursary for Lay Training – This fund was established to provide financial assistance for lay people of The Presbyterian Church in Canada to receive short-term training, instruction and enrichment for Christian service.
  • Conference Support Fund – This fund assists sponsoring groups in running small or larger conferences within Canada.
  • Continuing Education for Christian Educators  – Drawing from the Creative Ministry with Children and Youth fund, one-time grants are available to Christian Educators to participate in designated training events.
  • Creative Ministry with Children and Youth – This fund assists ministries of The Presbyterian Church in Canada in planning new one-time or ongoing creative ministry projects within Canada.
  • Healing and Reconciliation Seed Fund – This fund is to support Presbyterian groups (sessions, presbyteries, WMS or AMS groups etc.) in relationship building initiatives between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
  • The New and Renewing Ministry Fund – These funds seek to support ministry leaders and congregations as they open themselves up to discerning God’s vision and exploring new opportunities to live out Christ’s mission.
  • Niven – The purpose of this fund is to financially support missionary work assisting the spread of religious teaching within the Province of Ontario.
  • Regional Resourcing Grants – Partnership with synods and presbyteries to support initiatives across the country.
  • Rural and Remote Ministry Grant – This fund is separated into two streams; one to encourage students to consider rural and remote areas for ministry upon graduation and the other to help congregations access consistent leadership.
  • Special Projects – The purpose of this fund is to help fund small projects created by non-congregational ministries within The Presbyterian Church in Canada.
  • Worship and Liturgy – This fund was established to encourage and assist people who are committed to improving their knowledge and skills as leaders in worship within The Presbyterian Church in Canada.

Capital Funds

  • (Re)development of Property – A subset of The New and Renewing Ministry Fund, these funds are designed to help support to Presbyterian congregations, ministries and/or presbyteries explore the feasibility of redevelopment of the buildings and property to better participate in God’s mission. More than just a building renovation to better serve the congregation, these grants will help ministries re-visioning and re-working buildings and property to maximize service to the community through affordable housing and/or to creating space to serve the good of the community by addressing education, health, food security, small businesses/entrepreneurs, child care, addiction support needs and more. The committee is meeting monthly through the fall 2025 and winter 2026 to consider emerging applications.
  • McBain-Barker – The purpose of this fund is to assist congregations in small communities of The Presbyterian Church in Canada that seek assistance with small capital improvements to church buildings. Note: The next fund review period will be Spring 2026.
  • Chisholm – This fund assists congregations and missions complete small capital projects or develops new programs. Priority will be given to proposals from Presbyterian ministries in Saskatchewan and then western Canada. Note: The next fund review period will be Spring 2026.
  • Special Projects – The purpose of this fund is to help fund small projects created by non-congregational ministries within The Presbyterian Church in Canada.
  • Congregational Loans  – The purpose of these funds is to provide principal and interest loans to congregations.

Continuing Education Fund

Why pursue continuing learning? To seek spiritual renewal and growth, reflect on my calling, develop fresh ideas for worship and new leadership skills, assist my congregation through a period of transition.

The purpose of the Continuing Education Fund is to provide financial assistance for continuing education to help professional church workers of The Presbyterian Church in Canada to increase their effectiveness in ministerial service.

  • This fund makes financial assistance available to church workers for their professional development.
  • The program—workshop, course, conference—must have a minimum number of contact hours and be offered by a recognized organization.
  • Applicants must be approved by their presbytery or a church board or agency.
  • This fund supplements the allowance provided by the congregation or employer.
  • It is expected that the individual applying and their congregation or employer will contribute to the costs of the program
  • The maximum that an individual may receive in any five-year period is $1,500.

Colleague Covenant Group Grants

Funds are available to provide incentive grants to help ministers, diaconal ministers or lay ministers employed in The Presbyterian Church in Canada to begin new colleague covenant groups. These funds are accessible by PCC ministers and professional church workers wishing to form new groups.

Fund for Ministerial Assistance

  • Fund for Ministerial Assistance – The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support for ministers and diaconal workers of The Presbyterian Church in Canada who are at or near minimum stipend, as set by the General Assembly.
