Coordinator of Children’s and Family Ministries (CCFM)

The CCFM is responsible to develop, and have oversight of a multi-faceted ministry with the children and families of Morningside – High Park Presbyterian Church. It is the vision of MHP that children and their families will feel welcomed, cared for, and supported in their faith formation with the hope that all our children will be enabled to grow toward mature Christian adulthood through a family-based ministry program.

Family-based ministry is understood to be an intergenerational approach to ministry that supports and resources families to share their faith at home while connecting children and their families to the extended family of Christian adults of MHP. We believe that this approach enables parents and all adults of the church to be active and necessary participants in the faith formation of our young people, enabling all of us to build great relationships of faith and trust together. The role of the CCFM is to help all of the membership of MHP fulfill our responsibility and priviledge as sharers of our faith with the children of our church.

Key Organizational Relationships:

  • Christian Education Team
  • Through the Christian Education Team to the Session of MHP
    Key Ministry Relationships:
  • Children of MHP, including children from birth to grade 8
  • Parents and families of our children
  • Adult leaders of the Sunday school and seasonal intergenerational ministries

Key Responsibilities

  • To facilitate a structured, multi-faceted children’s ministry program with the children of MHP that would include Sunday School and seasonal intergenerational events.
  • To develop expanding opportunities for children and their families to be regularly involved in meaningful intergenerational worship, study, mission and fellowship.
  • To work closely and collaboratively with the minister and Christian education team of MHP to consider those programs and activities that would best meet our vision for this type of ministry,and develop action plans for the same.
  • To call members of MHP into this ministry, train and support them, and ensure that all needed resources are made available for leaders to succeed.
  • To promote, execute, evaluate and revisit/revise this ministry plan in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Additionally facilitate as able and needed
    • To provide pastoral care with children at times of crisis.
    • To support and resource parents as they seek to share their faith with their children at home.
    • To support and guide the adults of the the church in the sharing their faith experiences with the children of MHP.
    • To create a program that consistently celebrates the milestones achieved by the children of MHP.
  • Additional responsibilities
    • to meet regularly with the lead minister of MHP to review and integrate ministry plans.
    • attend and report to the Christian Education Team.
    • report through the Christian Education Team to the Session of MHP
    • report at least annually to the congregation through the Annual Congregational report and Annual Congregational Meeting.

Key Outcomes

  • The Children of MHP will show expressions of a growing and deepening faith through their participation in the life and ministry of MHP and within their family life at home.
  • The children of MHPwill know themselves to be valued children of God through their experience of Jesus as a life-changing gift of grace and through their participation in the Christ’s Church.
  • The children of MHP will consider their own faith and involvement within the Church and as servants of Christ in the world as increasingly independent of their parent’s faith and service and be able to see themselves maturing into active participation in Christ’s Church wherever they may go.
  • The adults of MHP will view themselves as integral to the faith formation of the children of MHP and valued for the ministry they participate in.
    Qualifications
  • Vibrant, mature and growing faith in Jesus Christ
  • Excitement for children’s and family ministry, with a knowledge of and commitment to a family-based approach to this ministry.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Creativity and flexibility.
  • Disposition of a learner and desire to work with ministry team
  • Ability to develop leadership in others
  • Enrolled in or completed a post-graduate Christian ministry program (preferred)
  • A clean police record evidenced through Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Commitment to the theology and practice of ministry in the Presbyterian Church in Canada and MHP.

Duration

  • Start Date: flexible, depending on the availability of the successful candidate
  • Hours: 20 hours/week, with flexibility given seasons of the church year.
  • Term: ten months per year (September – June) with option for renewal.
  • Hourly Rate: $25/hour
