POSITION DESCRIPTION
Knox College is seeking a Director of Lifelong Learning. Following on the college’s mission, we are seeking an individual to provide leadership in developing and implementing educational offerings to ordained ministers and lay leaders. This individual will be responsible for assessing demand, developing a plan for various types of offerings and programs for a one-year pilot, developing a budget, engaging instructors and facilitators, overseeing logistics, and evaluating the effectiveness of both individual offerings and the Lifelong Learning program as a whole. The Director of Lifelong Learning will report to the Principal. This is initially a one-year position focused on development and piloting, which is expected to become a permanent position based on successful completion of the pilot.
JOB EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The scope of the pilot will include:
- For clergy: just-in-time webinars, workshops, peer-to-peer networking groups, and a repository of resources – to enhance and update their skills and knowledge and provide support for their efforts in congregational change and renewal.
- For lay leaders: distributed learning offerings, and a repository of resources – to provide knowledge and skills in worship, preaching, pastoral care, congregational leadership.
This individual will work with the Presbyterian Church in Canada and its other theological colleges to coordinate these offerings.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SALARY
Candidates should have a Master’s degree in theology (MDiv, MTS, MPS, MRE), familiarity with the joys and challenges of congregational leadership, knowledge of principles of adult education, and skills in project management. Innovative thinking and the willingness to experiment will be a necessity. Very good communication skills are required to build relationships, as well as proven entrepreneurial skills. Strong administrative capabilities are essential. Must be willing to work in an ecumenical environment.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience, skills, and potential for success in this area.
