The Life and Mission Agency Committee has appointed the Rev. W. Corrie Stewart as the next Associate Secretary for Stewardship. Corrie comes to this strategic position in the life of the church after a long history of service within the church and the realm of finance. Karen Plater, the current Associate Secretary for Stewardship, will retire later this year, and Corrie will take up his new responsibilities on March 16, 2026.

Corrie grew up in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia and resides there with his wife, Rose Hall. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) from Cape Breton University (1989), a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from Saint Mary’s University (1993) and a Master of Divinity from Knox College (2015). Corrie is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. He is currently pursuing the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) professional fundraising credential.

Corrie was ordained as a minister of Word and Sacraments by the Presbytery of Cape Breton in October 2015 and served four rural congregations in a shared ministry until May 2022. He is currently Executive Director of the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County. Prior to serving as an ordained teaching elder, Corrie worked with several small and medium-sized businesses in accounting, general management, including financial and human resources, and business development. He was the Director of Corporate and Support Services for the Sydney Tar Ponds Agency from 2008-2015. He has operated a small part-time accounting practice since 2016 and continues to serve one rural congregation on a bi-weekly basis.

Corrie has been involved in the church at the local, regional and national levels. He was a ruling elder, treasurer and chair of the Board of Managers of his local congregation and has been the Moderator of the Presbytery of Cape Breton and treasurer of Camp MacLeod. He is currently a member of the Synod Council, Convenor of the Finance Committee and a member of the Personnel Committee of the Synod of the Atlantic Provinces. He was the Convenor of the Pension and Benefit Board for 2 years and is currently a member of the PCC’s Trustee Board and Finance Committee.

Community service has been a significant part of Corrie’s life for more than thirty years. He is a former director and treasurer of the Certified General Accountants of Nova Scotia, a former board member and Executive Committee member of the Cape Breton University Board of Governors and past chair of the Sydney Mines Investment Cooperative. Corrie is currently President of the Nova Scotia Hospice Palliative Care Association.
