How to Connect Your Congregation in 2025

Canada, Impact Stories

As a PWS&D Champion, there are so many ways to encourage your congregation to respond to need through PWS&D in 2025. Here’s a list of just a few!

Hold a PWS&D Sunday Service

PWS&D Sunday, a time to pause and reflect on the work the church is doing through PWS&D, is February 2, 2025. Order resources to bring visibility to PWS&D’s work on this day, and encourage your minister to make use of the PWS&D Sunday resource.

Host a Shrove Tuesday Fundraiser

Pancake fundraisers are a favorite in many congregations, and Champions across Canada love to do them! In Saskatoon, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church was back in person this year, after maintaining momentum through virtual Shrove Tuesday pancake suppers where they distributed bags with pancake mix and fixings, as well as PWS&D and Lenten information, and shared virtual entertainment, for the last few years. In 2024, with 70 people live and in person, they raised over $655 for the work of PWS&D!

Join the Guatemala Learning Tour

In May 2025, PWS&D will be taking a learning tour to Guatemala, and you can be part of it! Get a real sense of the work that our church is doing to support Indigenous communities in Guatemala, and return home equipped to share about the work of PWS&D and PCC partners, including the Francisco Coll School, Fraternidad de Presbiterales Mayas, AMMID (Maya-Mam Association for Research and Development) and CEDEPCA (Protestant Center for Pastoral Studies in Central America). Learn more and apply for the learning tour here.

Raise Support through the Journey for Hope

Do you know about the Journey for Hope, a fundraiser that happens every fall? It’s a great opportunity to make a difference alongside other PCC congregations Canada-wide. This year, eleven teams raised just short of $30,000 for the work of PWS&D. Invite Your Congregation to Pray and Advocate

An important part of championing for the work of PWS&D is inviting your congregation to bring the needs of people around the world to God in prayer, and sharing with them opportunities to advocate to local leaders. Many Champions print and share the monthly Champions Pray guide so that others in their congregations can also offer up the requests. By attending Champions Pray, which happens online the first Wednesday of each month, you can also stay up to date on opportunities to advocate.

There are so many ways to make a difference, and being a PWS&D Champion is a great one. If you’d like to represent your congregation as the Champion, visit WeRespond.ca/Be-A-Champion to learn more and sign up.
