Honouring the Children
Fund Established
In response to the devastating confirmation of unmarked graves on the grounds of former residential schools, and in honour of the children who were lost and all the people living with the consequences of that legacy, The Presbyterian Church in Canada has established the Honouring the Children: Reconciliation and Residential Schools Fund.

This fund will support initiatives associated with searches for unmarked burial sites in communities where schools were operated by The Presbyterian Church in Canada.

The Presbyterian Church in Canada has issued a statement of repentance and commitment to action, signed by the Rev. Dr. Daniel D. Scott and the Rev. Amanda Currie, current and former moderator of the General Assembly. Written in consultation with the National Indigenous Ministry Council, the statement apologizes for the PCC’s role in the operation of Indian Residential Schools and affirms the church’s commitment to the ongoing work that is needed to redress the harm inflicted on Indigenous communities and rebuild broken relationships with Indigenous people.

The highlights provide a daily summary of the notable events and decisions that took place during the Assembly, among which was the decision to make the National Indigenous Ministry Council a standing committee of the General Assembly.

And after years of prayerful study and discussion, the church agreed to make changes to its theology regarding marriage, providing the option to define marriage as either a covenant relationship between a man and a woman or a covenant relationship between two adult people.
