A combination of factors such as conflict, climate change and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a global food crisis.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, more than ever, we must act so that no one and is left behind. By investing in communities, we can help small-scale farmers adapt to deal with climate change and improve food security and nutrition, and help poor, rural communities build resilience to deal with crises.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>October 16 is World Food Day, a day to raise awareness and take action for those who struggle against hunger and malnutrition.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-facts-about-hunger\"><strong>Facts about Hunger<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>50 million people in 45 countries are wavering on the edge of famine.<\/li>\n\n<li>Nearly 85% of people experiencing hunger live in developing countries.<\/li>\n\n<li>Around 80% of displaced people live in countries affected by long-term hunger.<\/li>\n\n<li>Smallholder farmers produce more than 35% of the world\u2019s food, despite the many challenges they face, including poverty, lack of access to training and technology and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Together, We Respond to Hunger<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">PWS&amp;D works with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/foodgrainsbank.ca\/\"><strong>Canadian Foodgrains Bank<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and our global partners to help people in marginalized countries rise above hunger. Together, we are providing farmers with training so that families have more nutritious food to eat. In times of emergency, PWS&amp;D provides food aid and agricultural livelihood recovery. We also work to engage Canadians to take action within Canada to reduce hunger globally.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>This World Food Day, respond with us.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the Canadian Foodgrains Bank\u2019s new World Food Day worship resource,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/foodgrainsbank.ca\/resources\/world-food-day-until-all-are-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Until All Are Fed<\/strong><\/a>, which includes prayers, scripture readings, a children\u2019s feature, song suggestions and opportunities for advocacy.<\/li>\n\n<li>Place the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/presbyterian.ca\/pwsd\/download\/17383\/\"><strong>WFD 2022 poster<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>in your window, beside your desk, or in your church lobby so people walking by can know it\u2019s World Food Day and become curious to find out more.<\/li>\n\n<li>Attend the National Prayer Gathering on World Food Day to prayer with people from across Canada for an end to global hunger.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/foodgrainsbank.ca\/news\/world-food-day-2022\/\">Register here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More ways to help end hunger:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Host a\u00a0fundraising event\u00a0to support our programs that improve the long-term food security of families in need.
