We want to make sure you are successful and supported as a PWS&D Champion!

Check out the frequently asked questions below, or contact us for more information about this exciting opportunity to be part of PWS&D’s mission and ministry.

What is a Champion?

A PWS&D Champion is a volunteer who is passionate about the work of PWS&D, stays informed about PWS&D’s projects and partners, promotes the work of PWS&D within their church, high school, university or community and encourages others to get involved.

What are the benefits of being a Champion?

As a PWS&D Champion, you are helping to build God’s kingdom on earth and bring about a more sustainable, compassionate and just world.

How many Champions are there?

Our network of Champions is constantly growing. Our vision is to see one Champion in every Presbyterian congregation in Canada by the end of 2019, so that every congregation is deeply engaged in the mission and ministry of PWS&D.

What gifts or competencies do I need to be a Champion?

A passion for PWS&D and a desire to help promote our work is all you need!

You may use your administrative skills to email updates from PWS&D to your congregation, or inform your community through Sunday morning announcements. Because there are many ways to Champion our work, whether you’re good at hospitality, leadership or something completely different, there’s a place for you.

Is being a Champion just about raising money for PWS&D?

Being a Champion is about so much more than fundraising! Championing for change can also mean:

Praying:

Prayerful support of the mission and ministry of PWS&D is our lifeblood.

Educating:

You help everyone in your congregation feel deeply engaged in the mission and ministry of PWS&D when you share stories of our transformational work. Informing Canadian Presbyterians about the things happening around the world helps them fulfill God’s calling to advocate for a more sustainable, compassionate and just world.

Building relationships:

For more than 70 years, PWS&D has been committed to Christ’s message of love through caring, sharing and service to others. When you bring your congregation into relationship with PWS&D, they are joining this community.

What is the time commitment for being a Champion?

There is no specific time commitment for being a Champion—it may vary from person to person and depending on the time of year.

One month, you might spend a few minutes reading a PWS&D email and preparing to speak at your church about an emergency appeal. Another month, you may oversee an awareness and fundraising event, which takes a little more preparation.

How will I be supported as Champion?

As a Champion, you’ll receive our monthly e-newsletter, occasional e-mail alerts and packages in the mail with samples of our latest resources. You’ll also have opportunities to participate in monthly webinars and share ideas and feedback.

Staff are available to provide support with resources, ideas and fundraising events. Staff and committee members are also happy to come to your congregation, presbytery or community event to talk about PWS&D. If you would like to book a speaker, you may contact Anna Muir at amuir [at] presbyterian [dot] ca or 1-800-619-7301 ext. 293.

Can I connect with other Champions in my area?

Yes! Many of our Champions are interested in joining together to support each other through prayer or to work together on special events. Please feel free to contact us and we will do our best to connect you with other Champions in your area. You can also reach out on our Champions’ Corner Facebook group.
