We frequently hear about poverty in the developing world—the billions of people who have no access to clean water or health care or do not have enough nutritious food to eat. It is difficult to imagine what their lives must be like, or why they are so drastically different from our own lives in Canada.

Empowered to Prosper aims to help young people understand the causes of poverty and how they can make a difference—either through support of Presbyterian World Service & Development or by making changes in their day-to-day lives.

Players take turns selecting step forward and setback cards that reflect real life scenarios.

Players take turns selecting step forward and setback cards that reflect real life scenarios.

Designed as a multi-player board game, Empowered to Prosper takes place in five countries: Afghanistan, Malawi, India, Guatemala and Tanzania. Representing families living in these countries, players will experience the everyday realities of poverty, while moving across a game board. The player who reaches the end of the game board first, “escapes poverty.”

After playing Empowered to Prosper, youth are encouraged to reflect on what happened during the game.

* Due to an unforeseen level of interest we are only able to send you five copies of the game at this time. Because of the nature of the game – meant for group rather than individual play – we are hoping this will be a sufficient quantity for your church or youth group. Again, thank you so much for your interest and we apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you.
