Growing
Steward
Leaders

The Stewardship department helps congregations and individuals discern God’s mission and discover how they can use their resources—time, abilities, energy and money —to participate in this mission, both locally and internationally. We help congregations encourage generous giving in their church at a time when people don’t have the same culture of giving as past generations.

“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

2 Timothy 2:2

We also connect congregations and individuals to the mission we do together through gifts to Presbyterians Sharing.

What are the key concepts of stewardship?

  • All that we are, and all that we have, are gifts from God.

  • God loves us and wants us all to live joyful and productive lives.

  • How we live our lives is important to God.

  • Regular giving of our time, abilities, energy and money is a spiritual practice.

  • We seek the just and responsible use of God’s creation for the common good.

Learn & Teach About Stewardship

The Stewardship department has developed resources to help congregational leaders talk about money and teach how to manage and share resources according to biblical principles.

  • Remembering to give gratefully, cheerfully, intentionally, proportionally, regularly according to what one has.

  • Focusing on sharing goals, dreams and a vision for what can be accomplished when people give back to God (not just money).

  • Finding ways to make it easy for the people to give – through regular offerings and legacy gifts.

Giving Your Time & Talent

We live such busy lives. How do we answer the call to give a portion of our time to God?

Generosity Assessment

A flexible process that helps any congregation assess giving and culture in a positive context.

Start a Stewardship Committee in Your Church

Stewardship is at the heart of Christian life and is often overlooked as an aspects of discipleship. Like any spiritual discipline, stewardship must be taught. Your stewardship committee can become the most exciting committee of the church  as your work together, inspiring everyone in the congregation to use their gifts to do God’s work.

Limited Time Free Offer: A Fantastic Toolkit for your Stewardship Committee

Stewardship & Planned Giving have arranged for PCC churches to receive a subscription to Generosity magazines and the new Devoted to Generosity stewardship material, a treasure trove of tools developed by the Ecumenical Stewardship Center. This fun and dynamic material will help your congregation talk about and dive deeper into stewardship and generosity. It includes resources for preaching, worship, small groups, and children as well as campaign materials—including a calendar and example correspondence. The free toolkit includes:

  • All past and current issues of the Giving magazine (digital versions)

  • The stewardship theme materials for this year (Devoted to Generosity) and previous years and all video recordings

  • You’ll also receive a discount on any future ESC events.

By preparing for legacy gifts and endowments for your congregation, you help inspire generosity.

Prepare the Way for Greater Generosity

Your stewardship committee can help your church encourage and prepare for greater giving by developing a Statement of Christian Financial Stewardship. Your church can also motivate more substantial legacy giving from retiring givers and estates by Setting up Legacy Funds and Endowments. One of the best ways to remind churchgoers about giving options is to establish programs that support generosity.

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

1 John 3:18

Your committee can help your church prepare for receiving gifts.

Webinar

Webinar: Building Generous Congregations.

This webinar introduces Lori Guenther Reesor’s research about giving patterns in congregations. It covers generosity as an important part of church health and provides an intro to ideas on how to nurture communities of joyful generosity and to help congregations talk about money and giving. You will learn about the role of a theology of abundance in helping avoid the “scarcity/fear” mode in church culture.
