Considering Medically Assisted Death
with Michelle O’Rourke

Michelle O’Rourke is a registered nurse with an extensive background in Emergency Nursing, Parish Nursing, Hospice Palliative Care and Oncology. Her additional study in Pastoral Ministry and more than fourteen years as a Lay Pastoral Minister with the Roman Catholic Diocese of London gives her a deep understanding of the complexity present in end of life issues.

Michelle is the author of Befriending Death: Henri Nouwen and a Spirituality of Dying (Orbis Books, 2009) and Embracing the End of Life: Help for Those Who Accompany the Dying, (Novalis, 2012) co-authored by Eugene Dufour. In 2014 Michelle was chosen to oversee the design and development of Chatham-Kent Hospice, a ten-bed residential hospice which opened in April 2016 and continued to serve in a shared role as the Program Coordinator for both the Chatham-Kent Hospice and the Palliative Care and Oncology Departments. She retired in 2018 after thirty-three years of service and now has more time to focus on what she truly enjoys – speaking, writing, and consulting.
