The Rev. Johan EenkhoornThe Rev. Dr. Johan Eenkhoorn “Joop”, beloved husband to Fleur Wiles Eenkhoorn, his wife of 65 years and loving father to Joel (grand-daughter Carmen and great grand-son Jayvier) and Karen-Ann (Mark A. MacDonald). Siblings Hans and Leo in the Netherlands.

Growing up in the Netherlands under Nazi invasion, Joop’s younger years were, at times, not very pleasant to say the least. The end of the war saw the family move to Aruba where Joop’s father continued to serve in the military.

It was on a return trip back home on the ‘Love Boat’, after making a stop in Barbados, that Joop met the love of his life, Miss Fleur Wiles. Like her mother before her, Fleur wanted to be a nurse and was sailing to England to further her studies. Little did they know what the future had in store for them.

In 1957 Joop and Fleur were married in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1964. He obtained his Ph D in chemistry at the University of Waterloo and felt the call to serve in the Ministry. Two children and several years of studies and hard work later, Joop received his Theology Degree and began the job that he was born to do.

Joop was a devoted, loving husband and father and he spent the rest of his life answering the call when it was time for him to serve in whatever capacity the Lord chose. Fleur was right by his side and supportive the entire way.

Besides Fleur, surrounding himself with a mountain of books, stamps, drawings and orchids was his happy place. His true passion was studying and teaching. He had incredible knowledge of bible languages and was a great mentor to many.

Joop died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. For anyone that knew Joop, he was making wise cracks right up until the end. Typical of him.

“Hatched, Matched & Dispatched” he can now introduce his wit and endless repertoire of jokes to a whole new audience.
