An ongoing drought has plunged areas of Somalia into famine, which along with complex structural and systemic socio-political challenges, has forced the displacement of nearly a million people.
Presbyterian World Service & Development (PWS&D) of the Presbyterian Church in Canada is responding to the humanitarian disaster, made worse by conflict and insecurity, disease outbreaks, and four consecutive seasons of poor rainfall that have resulted in high food prices and a debilitatingly fragile food situation.
PWS&D, through its ecumenical partner, Canadian Foodgrains Bank, supports an outpatient clinic that treats children under five and lactating women experiencing malnutrition. Over the course of the project, more than 22,000 people will receive assistance.
