Lent Book Study 2024: A 40-Day Journey with Julian of Norwich

Our book study this year invites you to reflect on the work of the 14th Century Christian mystic Julian of Norwich’s ideas. Using Lisa E. Dunhill’s 40-Day Journey with Julian of Norwich, readers will be guided through different sections such as “Biblical Wisdom,” “Questions to Ponder,” “Psalm Fragments,” “Journal Reflections” exercises, and prayers to encounter Jesus “within a profoundly Trinitarian spirituality and a deep relational openness to all people, indeed, to all the cosmos.” The Rev. Dr. Emily Bisset will facilitate the weekly readings, using the Presbyterians Read Facebook group weekly, during Lent, and a few times in advance of Ash Wednesday, to post thoughts, suggestions for further reading and devotion, encouragement and additional questions to consider. The link to the Facebook group where Emily will be posting is https://www.facebook.com/groups/2397226327195079

40-Day Journey with Julian of Norwich is available from major booksellers in print or digital format.

As part of its Presbyterians Read series, the PCC offers an accompanying journal you can order (free) or download and print for your reflections.

Description:

Advent began Sunday, December 1, 2020. Many people were seeking ways to make this Christ-centered time. The short but impactful devotions in that year’s Presbyterians Read book, Celebrating Abundance by Walter Brueggemann, helped to create a healthy rhythm of spiritual reflection throughout the season. In this webinar, Emily Hill, Christian Education Coordinator for Canadian Ministries, introduced the book and discussed how small group leaders can use the study guide she created to facilitate weekly discussion groups about the book. Whether you have already organized a small group or are thinking about starting one, please join us!

Description:

In Lent 2020, Presbyterians across the country were invited to join a denomination-wide book study on N.T. Wright’s Lent for Everyone, Matthew, Year A. Using thoughtfully prepared weekly study guides, Presbyterians journeyed through Lent reflecting on what it means to be kingdom-people who participate in the new life that Jesus has brought.

In this webinar, Emily Hill, Christian Education Coordinator for Canadian Ministries, introduced the book and discussed how small group leaders can use the study guide she created to facilitate weekly discussion groups about the book.
