The Presbyterian Church in Canada supports congregations and ministries across the denomination as they live out the gospel of Jesus Christ by providing resources, ministry programs, information and guidance. The PCC also responds in times of crisis through various grant and loan programs.
In response to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the PCC has established emergency funding in the form of interest-free loans for those who are financially impacted by this pandemic.
The Presbyterian Church in Canada emergency funding will be used to provide aid to eligible ministries impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19). This funding is not applicable for cases in which long-term financial support is needed. It is intended to be used only for issues directly related to the impact of the coronavirus. The maximum loan shall be $12,000. The Presbyterian Church in Canada may not be able to grant all requests and strongly encourages congregations and ministries to explore other avenues for relief.
a) A completed Emergency Funding Request Form must be submitted by the ministry.
Once your request form is submitted, you will be put in contact with a member of Emergency Funding Review Committee. With this person you will:
- discuss your current fundraising strategies and explore the different giving platforms available for congregations and ministries.
- review the various government support programs available and identify the ones most appropriate for your context.
c) Upon completing steps a and b, your application will be reviewed by the Emergency Funding Review Committee made up of representatives from the Life and Mission Agency and the General Assembly Office.
d) The terms of repayment of the interest-free loan will be outlined in the approval letter. Normally, loan payments would begin no later than September 2021.
Emergency funding can only be granted for core expenses. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Key Leader/Clergy Salaries & Benefits
- Programmatic, Administrative & Facilities Management Salaries
Emergency funding will not be granted for the following:
- Capital Projects
- Pre-existing Property Disrepair
- Pre-existing Debt
- Business Ventures or Investments
Emergency funding will only be provided when ministries have applied for support through government assistance programs and have implemented a stewardship strategy.
