ARISE Ministry, a Supporting Grant recipient, offers outreach, case management and spiritual care to survivors of sexual exploitation living in the Greater Toronto Area.

Angel Power is a graduate of ARISE Ministry’s case management program and a talented poet. Angel is passionate about combining her poetry with her story and experiences to create awareness and to help prevent sexual exploitation, particularly with youth through prevention and intervention programming.

In February 2018, ARISE Ministry hired Angel as a Peer Support Worker to speak into the lives of young people at schools, group homes and youth groups. Speaking recently to a group of high school students, Angel shared her story of overcoming the trauma of exploitation, abuse and addiction. Afterward, students shared that, “Her words left us feeling shocked that tragedies such as this occur at such a young age, and to people in our own community.”

Angel, along with the other staff and volunteers at ARISE Ministry, hope that by empowering youth, they can help to prevent exploitation.
