Message of Support from the Moderator, the Rev. Peter Bush

I congratulate you for your commitment to addressing the discrimination experienced by minorities in Japan. You show great courage when you draw attention to the actions and the words of intolerance, marginalization and exclusion that are present in your society. Your commitment to the eradication of racial discrimination is a challenge and an example to the people of the world, calling us all to act to end the oppression of racial minorities wherever such oppression exists. The Presbyterian Church in Canada is pleased to continue our partnership with you in this important work. Be assured of the support of The Presbyterian Church in Canada as you work towards an inclusive community in Japan where minorities can live free from fear.

Prayer

God who has made all human beings in your image,
we thank you for the wide range of races and ethnicities which make up humanity.

Open our eyes to see in all people, regardless of their ethnicity, race, or culture, people who have the “dignity of life” having been made and gifted by you. Help us, the communities in which we live, and our nations to see in all people fellow human beings.

Open our hearts and the hearts of those around us that we might work together to build a community in which people of every tribe and language, of every race and ethnicity, of every nation and people group, can find a place where they can live free from fear. Make this true in Japan we pray.

We thank you for the courage of the churches and other groups in Japan who through the Centre on Minority Issues and Mission work together towards a just and inclusive society in Japan. We pray for their success in the transformation of Japanese society, and pray that they will be a witness to the whole world regarding their commitment to the eradication of racial discrimination.

These things we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, who brought good news for all people. Amen.
