News, etc:

  • The Service of Recognition for Ruth Draffin (see item immediately below) has been set for Sunday October 14. As is the usual practice, Presbytery will meet at 6:30 and the service will commence at 7:00 PM. The Upper Room meets in Chamberland Hall, next to Park Simon, 1517 Laurier Street, Rockland, ON (MAP)

  • At the regular presbytery meeting on Sept. 18, Ruth Draffin was appointed as Stated Supply for the Upper Room, Rockland on a half-time basis for one year commencing Oct. 1/18. Added to the appendix were Carol Bain, retired minister from Seaway-Glengarry), David Stewart, recently returned to Ottawa as a student and Floyd McPhee who finished his term as interim minister at St. Tim's at the end of August.

  • (Aug 24) The 2018 Acts and Proceedings and Book of Forms are now available for downloading on the PCC website here.

  • At the emergent meeting called for Aug. 14 at Grace Church, Orleans, , Dan MacKinnon was granted leave to retire, and Jonathan Dent was appointed stated supply at Grace for a period of one year commencing September 11, 2018. Dan, we wish you God speed in your retirement, and welcome, Jonathan! a service of recognition to launch the partnership between Jonathan Dent and the congregation of Grace Church, Orleans, will be held at Grace Church on September 23, 2018 at 7 p.m. (Presbytery meets at 6:30)

  • The clerk reports that the Rev'd Mr. Ernest Zugor, Minister Emeritus, Calvin Hungarian Church, Ottawa, was summoned into the nearer presence of the Lord on Monday, May 7, 2018. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Church, 470 Roosevelt Avenue, Ottawa, with a reception following. All are welcome to attend. Let us remember his widow Margot and her family in our prayers.

  • The first edition of the Book of reports for the upcoming General Assembly was posted on the national church website on May 9 - here.

  • Notice anything new? On April 30 the national church released a "refreshed" burning bush logo. The Presbytery pages have used the logo from the national church for some time and have now been adjusted to reflect the change. More info here, including downloads.

  • At the special meeting held April 17, a call was sustained to William and Christine Ball from Mill Woods Presbyterian Church, Edmonton AB. Karen Dimock will become interim moderator for Westminster Church, Ottawa effective June 18, 2018 and the pulpit will be preached vacant on June 24, 2018. Also at that meeting the Presbytery of Ottawa certified Huda Kandalaft as a candidate for ordination.

  • a luncheon for retired ministers (and spouses) was held Thursday, May 3, 2018, 12 noon to 2 PM at Parkwood church

  • From the moderator... On February 12, 2018 the moderator of the 143rd General Assembly, Rev. Peter Bush, issued a letter in response to a directive of the 143rd General Assembly expressing repentance for homophobia and hypocrisy within the church. A copy of that letter is available here.

  • The 2017 Acts and Proceedings and Book of Forms are now available on the national church website here. Links are imbedded in text in the first paragraph.

  • The 143rd meeting of the Synod of Quebec & Eastern Ontario, met in Montreal Friday & Saturday Oct. 20 & 21; info is posted on the Synod site here.
