On the evening of December 16, 2011, Tropical Storm Washi made landfall in the Philippines, resulting in flash floods which have left thousands homeless and hungry as houses and crops were swept away. Homes have been destroyed entire communities are struggling to cope without food or electricity. According to the ACT Alliance, over 400 families were only days away from harvest before their crops were washed away. The United Nations reports that over 146,550 people have been directly affected by this disaster.
PWS&D is accepting donations to assist the victims of flooding and will be working through local partners to provide a timely and effective response to those in most need.
