Our Partnerships
PWS&D is supporting the Jumla Clinic to replace malnutrition and disease with hope, health and opportunity for the future. Clinic staff tackle the pervasive problem of severe malnutrition by providing therapeutic feeding and intensive care for suffering children, education for families and follow-up visits to ensure child health is maintained. The clinic also provides treatment for tuberculosis, leprosy and very ill AIDS patients while working to reduce stigma surrounding these diseases in the community. The poorest patients work with clinic staff to improve their livelihoods, often in the form of small income generating projects or training in livestock rearing and kitchen gardening. To reduce the stigma of TB, leprosy and HIV and AIDS, the clinic supports the district hospital through the treatment of skin, ear, dental and burn patients on an out-patient basis. The mixing of patients serves to avoid any sense of segregation and challenges traditional attitudes toward people affected by these diseases.
