Peter Finishes His Great Canadian Cycling Adventure

Readers will recall that I previously shared the story of Peter McLean’s bicycle trip across Canada to raise money for the Hakka Bible Translation Project and as a kind of personal rite of passage.   Well, I just received word from Peter’s mother, Mary Beth, that Peter has now completed his epic journey.  I thought you might like to read Mary Beth’s All Staff email that she sent out to folks here at the National Church Offices.  I join with Mary Beth in celebrating the completion of Peter’s trip, and I thank God for the money he has raised so far for such a worthy project.  Peter’s younger brother, Mark, flew to Newfoundland to meet Peter to the finish line, and the two of them will be returning to Toronto to enjoy Thanksgiving with their family – a Thanksgiving which I am sure will be an especially memorable one for the whole McLean clan.  And, by the way, even though Peter has completed his journey, I’m sure it’s not too late to celebrate his accomplishment with a gift to the Hakka Bible Translation Project.

Dear Colleagues,

Some of you know that our son Peter was riding his bicycle across Canada this summer. In mid-June, he dipped his back wheel into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Vancouver Island and began his 8,656 km journey to the Atlantic Ocean. Well, this week, on Tuesday Oct 5th 2010, Peter arrived at Cape Spear NF, the most easterly point of Newfoundland. To date, as a result of Peter’s efforts, International Ministries has received over $10,000 for Gifts of Change “Hakka Bible Translation project.” Donors in Taiwan have sent their gifts directly to the Bible Society in Taiwan (BST).

If you like (and if you have the time), you may check out Peter’s blog:  http://petermclean.tumblr.com/. He has posted lots of photos and blog entries, both short and long. My favourite entry is the one entitled `Music to my ears` which was posted on Aug 14th.

A proud mom,

Mary Beth

And to that all I can add is, way to go, Peter!  More than just your mom is proud of you!
