It was over 32 years ago that the budget approved by General Assem- bly was officially called Presbyteri- ans Sharing. This name epitomizes how Presbyterians suppor t a mul- titude of mission and ministry pro- grams with their gifts. And yet, it’s not uncommon to hear the question, “What exactly does Presbyterians Sharing do?”
In some ways, it is hard to explain because it supports so much. As a relational church, The Presbyterian Church in Canada values working together. Through gifts to Presbyte- rians Sharing, Presbyterians across Canada are making mission and ministry happen. Together, we en- courage and equip congregational renewal and development; suppor t
General Assembly and its commit- tees; support inner city, Indigenous and refugee ministries; equip clergy and lay leaders; send mission per- sonnel to work with international par tners—and so much more!
Louise Bloemberg, from St. An- drew’s Presbyterian Church in Wing- ham, Ont., recently shared some personal comments with national office staff: “I am so impressed with all the resources we have at our fingertips through national of- fice. Thanks SO much. I appreciate all the ‘behind the scenes’ work that is done by people at national office. There is a hear t-to-hear t feeling that comes through emails and phone calls that makes me realize your dedication and commitment to serv- ing others.”
In this issue of the Presbyterian Connection newspaper, you will find stories highlighting a wide array of ministries suppor ted by Presbyteri- ans Sharing: the transforming min- istry of ARISE, the coming together of Presbyterians for General Assem- bly and the exciting congregational ministry of Montreal West. You can also read about our partners in the Middle East, theological colleges, the Stewards by Design and Trans- form conferences, Canada Youth and the suppor t that Justice Minis- tries is providing to help congrega- tions respond to the Calls to Action.
You’ll also see a new Presbyteri- ans Sharing logo that will be used to help tell our stories of mission and ministry. Inspired by the values in The Presbyterian Church in Can- ada’s strategic plan and the early church’s use of the fish as a sym- bol of Christianity, this logo is also intended to capture the vibrancy of Presbyterians Sharing. Working on the Presbyterians Sharing logo actually inspired the refresh of the PCC’s burning bush logo.
When the logo was launched at recent Life and Mission Agency and Assembly Council meetings, mem- bers saw many different things: Presbyterians coming together from across Canada to collaborate on mission and ministry; a shining star; two variations of a cross; a flower bursting with life. The colour purple blends the red and blue colours of the PCC logo, and represents royal- ty to celebrate Christ’s resurrection and sovereignty.
Watch for the new logo on upcoming resources, projects and events supported by Presbyterians Sharing. Find
out more at presbyterian.ca/ sharing so that you will be able to confidently and knowledgeably reply the next time you are asked, “What does Presbyterians Sharing do?”
