A Vision for the Future
Moderator’s Message
The Rev. Mark A. Tremblay
BA, MDiv, MA, MPhil
Mark Tremblay, a native of Kingston, Ontario, has had the privilege of min- istering to churches in Brampton, Ontario; Bermuda; Lansdowne and Caintown, Ontario; and now at Knox, Calgary. He is a graduate of Knox College, the Claremont Graduate Uni- versity and the University of Wales.
Mark’s service to The Presby- terian Church in Canada includes clerk of the Presbytery of Kingston, moderator of the Synod of Alber ta and the Nor thwest, along with other leadership roles. He has served on the Assembly Council and currently sits on the Ecumenical and Inter faith Relations Committee and as the de- nomination’s representative to the Canadian Interfaith Conversation.
Mark is involved with interfaith dia- logue and justice for the full inclusion of Indigenous people and the LGBTQ2S community. He supports the poverty reduction strategy adopted by the City of Calgary, and represents the Pres- byterian Church and Calgary Interfaith Council on various committees.
Mark and his wife, Liz, have four children, two grandchildren and two dogs.
What is your image of the church at its best?
“My favourite image is the church as a gym or training centre. It is a safe place where we are supported to complete what we started, go further, strive to be better equipped to deal with what hap- pens to us outside the church. We find people like ourselves learning what it means to be God’s children and to look out for one another.”

raised on the third day in accord- ance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sis- ters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me... This is what we preach; this is what you have believed.
We, like our brothers and sisters in Corinth, have become distracted. We, like our brothers and sisters in Corinth, have a long list of issues that have sapped our energy, imperilled our health, damaged our witness,
divided our number. We need to re- member what is of first impor tance, which we have received, in which we stand, through which we are being saved. It must be our first hope, our first priority, our first proclamation: Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and was buried, and was raised on the third day.
And so, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, to you I commend the words of our brother Paul:
Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.
Amen.

In 2016, the General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Canada approved a strategic plan for the de- nomination. The plan highlights the vision and mission of the church, and provides goals, methods and objec- tives for how to look to the future.
Vision of the PCC
• Disciples of Christ
• Empowered by the Spirit • Glorifying God
• Rejoicing in Service!
Mission
As a Reformed church, we rely on the truth and inspiration of scriptures for God’s guidance into the future—a future that we approach with wonder and anticipation, knowing God is with us.
Relying on the power of the Holy Spirit, we proclaim the love and good
news of Jesus Christ through our words and actions.
As worshipping communities joy- fully celebrating the sacraments, we are suppor ted, strengthened and equipped to share the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.
As worshipping communities of The Presbyterian Church in Canada, relying on the power of the Holy Spirit, we proclaim the love and good news of Jesus Christ through our words and actions by working together as a national church to provide:
• Visionary leadership
• Empowering resources that are relevant, contextual and missional
• Relational connections that in- carnate Christ’s mission at the local, national and international levels
