Central Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, Ontario, seeks to fill the above position to begin in January, 2019.
Central is a historic, healthy and multi-generational community. The Sanctuary has a Casavant 4 manual tracker pipe organ and a 9 foot Baldwin concert grand piano. The Director will ensure that music remains a vital part of our Christian ministry and continue the tradition of high quality music and musicianship. Strong organizational, administrative, leadership and collaboration skills are vital. Reporting to the minister, the Director of Music Ministries is at least a half-time position.
Responsibilities will include the following:
- prepare music for all services; support congregational singing; rehearse, direct and accompany the music used in services and sung by the SATB choir; train and develop the choir through regular rehearsals and recruit new members as needed; provide direction to soloists; provide music for all weddings and funerals
- respect the traditional musical content at Central while also incorporating a varied and expanded repertoire; facilitate the continuation of special musical experiences and explore possibilities for mission
- collaborate with the Children’s Music Coordinator
- draw up an annual budget ; oversee the care of the organ and pianos
