That All May Be One: Many Peoples, One Church
The 139th General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Canada was held Friday, May 31 to Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Newham Campus of Seneca College in Toronto. The Assembly was jointly hosted by the Presbyteries of Eastern Han-Ca and Oak Ridges. The theme was “That all may be one: Many peoples, one church.”

Walking Toward Reconciliation
Commissioners of the 139th General Assembly (2013) were asked to suggest ideas to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Confession in 2014. This is a summary of their ideas.
Moderator of the 139th General Assembly
Since 1999, The Rev. Dr. David Sutherland has served as minister of St. Andrew’s Church (The Kirk) in downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland. He also has also served congregations in Central Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He has been on the national church’s Assembly Council and the Assembly Council’s Audit Committee. He is currently part of the General Assembly Nominating Committee.
Dr. Sutherland has served the Synod of the Atlantic Provinces as moderator, treasurer, a member of Synod Council, a member of the Camp Geddie Committee, and is now the clerk of Synod. He has served the Presbytery of Newfoundland as clerk and is the current treasurer, the Presbytery of Cape Breton as Camp convener, and the Presbytery of Halifax and Lunenburg as moderator and convener of the Ministry Committee.
Dr. Sutherland and Irma began their married life in the outreach ministry of Scott Mission while he studied at Knox College. They have two children, The Rev. A.D. (Sandy) Sutherland (married to Marly) and Shelagh Walsh (married to Andrew) and four grandchildren. David Sutherland is an avid outdoor enthusiast.
