February 14 is Have a Heart Day!

Have a Heart Day is a child and youth-led reconciliation event that brings together caring Canadians to help ensure First Nations children have the services they need to grow up safely at home, get a good education, be healthy, and be proud of who they are.

Last year more than 700 students from 20 different schools, as well as hundreds of other supporters, gathered on Parliament Hill to promote love and fairness for First Nations children in celebration of Have a Heart Day. Additionally, at least 6,500 Valentines letters supporting Have a Heart Day were sent to elected officials across the country!

This year, we're inviting you to Have a Heart once again. Children and youth are invited to write Valentine’s day cards to the Prime Minister and federal Members of Parliament showing their support for Indigenous children.

The Life and Love of the Rev. D.G. McQueen

The Rev. Dr. McQueen and his future wife, Miss Catherine Robertson of Strabane, Ontario.
In October 2017, the Presbyterian Archives received a generous gift from Mrs. Margaret McKinnon, the grand-daughter of the Rev. Dr. David G. McQueen (1854–1930) of Edmonton.

The gift included two binders of 73 beautifully preserved handwritten letters that revealed a year-long courtship over many miles between Dr. McQueen and his future wife, Miss Catherine Robertson of Strabane, Ontario.

Through beautiful script containing poetry and prose, their growing love for one another is revealed, as is their draw to western Canada and a mutual commitment to serve the church.
