Ecumenical Gathering Fosters International Sharing

Some forty professionals working on ecumenical relations in different member churches across the globe recently gathered in Geneva, Switzerland for a four-day meeting which took place September 16–19, 2017. The biennial gathering of ecumenical officers of the World Council of Churches created a rich opportunity to network with colleagues throughout the international church.

Principal Clerk Stephen Kendall attended these gatherings on behalf of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. It provided an opportunity to offer feedback to the WCC from our church and receive updates on the current programs and initiatives of the WCC. Canadian ecumenical officers were able to hold discussions on emphasizing the place of Indigenous peoples around the world in the WCC Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace.

When asked about the WCC’s work, the Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, General Secretary, said that for him, it is a highlight “when we can address issues together and those who are suffering say that it actually makes a difference.”
